Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma Application on Pelvic Organ Prolapse Mesh Cases
Abstract
Mesh implementation is one of the current treatments of pelvic organ prolapse, especially higher-grade ones. Reconstructive surgery using either native tissue or meshes is used to treat the descent of pelvic organs. However, implanting mesh in vaginal mucosa has a higher risk of erosion due to dysfunctional wound healing and integration between the mesh and the tissue. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has several growth factors to assist the wound healing process. Previous studies have reported its application in animal and in vitro studies. Using PRP in pelvic organ prolapse mesh is a promising technique to ameliorate POP patients' quality of life.
